Welcome
to the website of Jean-René Auvray.
JR,
as Jean-René is known for obvious reasons, is the UK’s
only French racehorse trainer. He took out his license in 2002 and trains
for both flat and jumps.
The son
of the highly successful French trainer, the late René Auvray,
JR has also worked with some of the world’s best known training
names, including Criquette Head in France, Luciano
Camici in Italy and Martin Pipe and Nicky Henderson
in the UK.
He is married
to Alison and has a daughter Georgina, born in 2002.
JR and
Alison aim to provide all their owners, big and small, with a personalised
service, great value and above all plenty of fun along the way. That
policy extends to their horses, with the highest standard of care provided
for their physical and mental wellbeing. Each horse is treated as an
individual, with a training programme tailored to their needs. Here
at Lambourn Racing, our horses' welfare is a priority both during and
after their racing careers.
The
team at Frenchmans Lodge
Jodie
Hindle, right (Groom and amateur jockey) - Bradford born Jodie arrived in August 2006 from the British Racing School and quickly established herself as a key member of the team. Jodie also holds an amateur licence and has special responsibility for the horses’ medical treatments. |
Betty Lucas, left (Travelling Head Groom) - Betty first came here from her native France in 2005, when carrying out work experience from her equine studies course. Having completed her degree we snapped up the chance to have her here full time. |
Peter
‘Jumbo’ Heaney, left (Senior Groom) - Jumbo
has been in racing all his life, starting out with Fred Winter before
going to Nick Gaselee as head lad. When Nick retired he had a brief
spell with Sylvester Kirk before joining us in 2004. One of
the best in the business, we are incredibly lucky to have
him. Unfailingly cheerful and dependable, Jumbo is an ideal foil
for the gallic temperament of the trainer!
|
Lindsay White (apprentice jockey) - 20 year old Lindsay joined us in February 2008 having worked in the racing industry since leaving school. |
Carly Smith, right (work experience) - Veterinary student Carly comes to us during her holidays, as she wishes to specialize in the equine sector, and in particular in race horses. |
|
Nigel
Burnell, left (Work Rider, part time) - Nigel worked for Mary
Reveley before joining the Metropolitan Police in 2003. His father
trains point-to-pointers so he comes from a solid racing background.
He is a very good, lightweight rider and started riding out for
us at the beginning of 2006. |
Helen
Tayton-Martin, right (Work Rider, part time) - Surely one of
the best qualified riders in the business, with a doctorate in molecular
biology, Helen’s day job is as a venture capitalist in the
biotech industry. She is married to Noel Chance’s travelling
head lad Ian. Helen has been with us since we started. |
| Alison
Auvray (Secretary, Business Manager, Gardener, Cook, General Factotum)
- Originally an Arabic linguist in the army, Alison met JR when
she was working as secretary for Martin Pipe. After moving to Lambourn
she worked for Brian Meehan before becoming a project manager for
a sign company. After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in
2001 she gave up full time work and instead became a mum to Georgina,
born in 2002. Alison runs all the administration side of the business,
including the website. |
